Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last few weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night just to realize your furnace won’t turn on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are some things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters every 30 days. If you don’t, they can become clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but confirm the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating equipment will still not turn on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 561-629-1826 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
